SEPTEMBER 2006 PROJECT

Argentina Project – Phase I

Fact finding trip to Santiago del Estero:

  • El Desbastardero – delivered donated dirt bike for community center aide as this is an effective source of transportation due to the lack of reliable roads.
  • Morindito – inoculated livestock against diseases transmittable to humans.
  • Manisnioj – delivered donated dirt bike for community center aide.

NOVEMBER 2007 PROJECT

Argentina Project – Phase II

  • Long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets donated by Vestergaard Frandsen shipped to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • Distributed bed nets to community of Burro Pozo.
  • Residents of Burro Pozo educated on proper installation and use of bed nets.
  • EKG machine donated by MotoMedics International to Fundación Pilotos Solidarios used for baseline physicals on residents.
  • Solar panel donated by MMI used to power the Health Center in Burro Pozo.
  • Water pump donated by MMI to demonstrate correct usage for Santiago del Estero.

SEPTEMBER 2008 PROJECT

Argentina Project – Phase III

  • Fundraising phase to purchase additional bed nets for distribution to  communities in the province of Santiago del Estero.
  • 400 insecticide-treated bed nets, donated by bed net manufacturer Vestergaard Frandsen, were shipped to Buenos Aires.
  • MMI volunteers arrived in Buenos Aires on September 16th, traveled by bus to Santiago del Estero and then by truck to the outlying communities.
Currently there is no cure for Chagas.  Bed nets are an answer for what can we do right now to help stop this disease.  Won’t you please help?

· October 20th presentation on the work we do and the  2008 Argentina Trip was made to employees, faculty, and students of Mount Carmel Health System and Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
